Hello,

no question is stupid, first of all, which flavour of linux are you using? with program linux, do you mean compile the whole operating system?
or you just need to add new programs?

Thanks.

Amarok.

HEllo Gin-fox

if you are new to it we strongly suggest you to download a linux distribution and start playing with it we suggest you Ubuntu
which is available from http://www.ubuntu.com/
If you are still not happy and want to compile it from scratch you can start downloading the kernel from (ftp.kernel.org)
in fact what you compile is the kernel at least you start from there.
For the time being we do not have a full tutorial about making your own Linux distro, but you can have a look at http://www.linuxfromscratch.org
which is quite simple to follow :-)

hope this helps.

Hi Gin-fox,

this can be quite tricky, you can have a dual boot machine, you could also download and run vmware player and install it on a virtual machine
but the you will need a ready made virtual machine or you could download MS virtual pc but again you will need to adjust the graphic depth,
if you are keen to give it a go, please follow this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToConfigureUbuntuForMicrosoftVirtualPC2004

Thank you.
